National Pet Day – HVAC Tips for Pet Owners

It’s National Pet Day! Having a pet can be great in many ways, but sometimes our furry friends can negatively impact the indoor air quality in our homes. Here are a couple HVAC tips to improve the air quality in your home!

  • HVAC system filtration is essential to ensure proper indoor air quality for all your occupants, pets included. Filters should be monitored and changed (every month for 1” filters, every 6 months for 6” filters) to avoid contaminants from re-entering circulation within your home’s air supply.
  • Use a strong, efficient vacuum with a HEPA filter to remove dirt and debris from floors and furniture before it has a chance to get airborne. Be sure to regularly clean kennels, play and sleeping areas, holding rooms, litter boxes, and other areas your pets frequent.
  • Over time, dust can accumulate in your airducts themselves. If you’re still having trouble with poor IAQ and stubborn odors, it might be time to consider having your duct work professionally cleaned. A good and thorough duct cleaning can take several hours or more to complete, so be warry of companies advertising fast results.

Hopefully you find these tips helpful and you give your pet a tasty treat on National Pet Day!
